The
project named
«Establishment of a network for the treatment and energy
valorisation, by means of Anaerobic Digestion, of the residues
generated by the citrus - processing industries (AnDigNet)»
carried out in the framework of the
specific research and technological development programme
«Promotion
of Innovation and encouragement of SME participation».
The AnDigNet project was implemented in an 18 - month period
(01/04/2000 – 30/09/2001).
The
overall objective of the project was to explore the
possibility of developing a network of appropriate
partners (key - players) in order to rationally utilize
the energy potential of the organic wastes generated
in huge quantities, specifically by the citrus - processing
industries in Southern Europe, through Anaerobic Digestion
- AD, (recognised as the Best Available Technology
- BAT, for this purpose), as well as to develop the
necessary infrastructure towards actual project implementation.

The
network focused on non - technical issues such as:
| |
|
The
social and environmental impacts and benefits |
| |
|
|
| |
|
The
institutional and financial barriers |
| |
|
|
| |
|
The
risks involved by the potential investors, the end users
and other project developers, and |
| |
|
|
| |
|
The
interaction and synergies to be developed between the
network components to ensure efficient networking. |
As
a result of the AnDigNet project, this guide offers information
on the above issues, which must be ensured for the actual
implementation of AD schemes and especially for the energy
exploitation of the residues generated by the citrus - processing
industries (also applicable in other sectoral activities
of similar nature).
