The Project:

The activities of the project are divided into the following work programmes:

WP 1. Project Co-ordination

Coordination of the project, covering all activities related to the project management, including the planning of the project, controlling the progress, guarding the coherence of the work packages, elaborating a synthesis of the results. This WP also includes communication with the EU, including the periodic management reports and cost statements.

WP. 2. Detailed description of RES framework for EU25 (and EU27)

Detailed description of the existing situation in EU25 (and EU27), regarding RES. EREC and the RES technology associations will provide the necessary data, through contacts with local producers, in each Member State. This will include
i. Installed capacities
ii. Financial & political framework
iii. Technological potential
iv. Issues regarding market penetration of RES
The final outcome of this WP will be an independent market view and an assessment of the available potential for each technology, in each member state.

WP 3. Expansion of existing tools

The TIMES model is being used in the framework of the NEEDS project, but it will need to be expanded and improved in order to include the modelling of RES in detail. The changes required will be both for the electricity production from RES and for the detailed incorporation of biomass and biofuels use in the energy system.
WP4. Scenario Analysis

Based on the analysis of WP2, a number of future options for policies and measures will be defined. These policies and measures will be studied with the use of TIMES, in order to analyze their effects on the RES development and corresponding environmental and economic impacts.

WP 5. Future policy recommendations

Recommendations of optimal mix scenarios for policy measures in order to ensure the achievement of the targets. For the definition of the optimal scenarios the results from the assessment of the impacts of RES penetration will be used, as calculated in the previous work package.

WP 6. Dissemination – Regional workshops & Policy conference

Those optimal mix scenarios for policy measures will be presented and discussed in regional workshops as well as in a policy conference to be organized at the end of the project.

WP 7. Common Dissemination activities

These activities will mainly consist of participation in workshops, meeting and conferences as well as providing document and papers on request of the EC.
