The project “Wind Energy Assessment Studies and Wind Engineering” (WINDENG) was executed in the framework of the action “Improving the Human Research Potential and the Socio-Economic Knowledge Base”, and deals with the creation of a research and training network on the study of wind characteristics related to the design of wind farms in Europe.

The original work plan was divided into the following 5 interrelated tasks:

• Study and modelling of turbulence in the Planetary Boundary Layer (PBL);
• Wind energy assessment in complex terrain (SITING);
• Wind modelling in complex terrain (MODELING);
• Offshore wind engineering (OFFSHORE), and;
• Power forecast (POWER).
