EUROPEAN PROJECTS SAVE Programme FORBIOM

The initiation of the use of biomass energy for the CHP production in district heating systems in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe

Project Duration 15/10/2003 – 15/4/2005
CRES Budget 67.765,00 €

Main goal of the project is to identify and utilize the up-to-date experience with renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in existing and new developed biomass district heating systems in central and eastern European countries, in particular Slovenia, Slovak Republic, Poland and Czech Republic.

Information relative to existing applications will be gathered and evaluated in terms of energy efficiency and energy policy priorities. The current project will contribute to integrated strategic planning to be followed in the future in order to avoid repetition of operational and technical problems during the implementation of the abovementioned technologies.

The work programme include market assessment for utilizing biomass as a fuel in municipal district heating systems, information gathering and evaluation concerning representative successful projects, prefeasibility studies development, promotion of promising case studies in potential investors and competent authorities of energy policy and planning.
