PEPESEC PROJECT
Energy planning for sustainable communities

The role of the Municipality of Amaroussion in the PEPESEC project

The Municipality of Amaroussion is one of the 12 PEPESEC project partners and one of the city-regions for which Energy Plans will be developed. In the framework of the project, each participating Municipality has to prepare and deliver an integrated model “Action Plan for Sustainable Energy” (Energy Plan), having ensured the support of as many local actors as possible (citizens, market actors, etc) for that purpose. The action plan should have a pilot character so as to be transferable on a national scale (Work Package 4). Cooperation though the exchange of experience and know-how between the PEPESEC partners, who have different levels of expertise in energy planning, can clearly contribute to addressing the challenge previously identified.

How is CRES related to the Municipality of Amaroussion and to the project implementation?

Moreover, the Municipality of Amaroussion is the Deputy Leader of Work Package 5 entitled “Intelligent systems to plan and manage sustainable energy communities”, providing support to the Work Package Leader, Manchester City Council.

The main objective of this particular work package is the development of innovative approaches of energy planning with the aid of intelligent systems, developing new and innovative applications of Information Society Technologies (IST), which can support energy planning and management in terms of strategic decision-making and engagement of citizens and companies during the development of Sustainable Energy Communities. The Municipality of Amaroussion has signed a contract with the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving (CRES), which will provide technical and advisory support to the partner.

Contribution of the Municipality of Amaroussion to the implementation of other Work Packages

In addition, the Municipality of Amaroussion will participate to the creation of a knowledge base drawn from the experience and expertise of the partners in energy planning (Work Packages 2, 7 and 8), to the communication, dissemination and public awareness activities (Work Packages 3 and 7), as well as to the project management and evaluation procedures (Work Packages 1 and 6 respectively).
